Elite XG270QG Review – A Color Accurate, Responsive Gaming Monitor

ELITE XG270QG

Any monitor that is released today is jumping into a mountain of competition. It’s hard to stand out among the crowd when everyone seems to be offering a million different specs all claiming to be the best. But the Elite XG270QG review really stood out in the regard.

Excelling in some aspects, not over extending to be everything to everyone. I can safely say this monitor has put its energy into the right areas.

27” Display, large without being a overly so. This monitor will make a great center monitor and allow you to have your side monitors you’d like.

Resolution of 2560×1440, preserving that 16:9 aspect ratio that we all know and love, but much more crisp on such a large display.

Dynamic contrast of 120M:1, Static contrast 1000:1, 10-bit color gamut, Nano IPS panel, and a 1ms (GTG) response time all add up to probably one of the sharpest looking monitors we have ever reviewed.

165hz Refresh rate is just about as fast as you can ask for. Sure, 240hz is possible, but would be prohibitively expensive in a monitor of this size. I think this is the perfect refresh rate for this model.

VESA Compatible with a 100mm x 100mm standard. Nothing is more frustrating than a non-VESA compliant monitor.

Further reading on some of the terms:

“In comparison to standard IPS displays which cover ~100% of the sRGB color space, Nano IPS displays have an extended gamut of ~135% sRGB or 98% DCI-P3 which allows them to deliver more vibrant and lifelike colors that are, among other things, essential for an immersive HDR (High Dynamic Range) viewing experience.” – Display Ninja

1440p is also called QHD (quad high definition) is a display resolution that measures 2560 x 1440 pixels. This resolution is also commonly referred to as 2K.

GTG means grey to grey, it takes 1ms for a pixel to go from one state to another, the monitor probably has a 3ms BTB time.

Quality of Build

Vertical Orientation Monitor
Vertical Orientation

The monitor is very well built, solid and sturdy on all the places you’d hope it would be. A solid metal base combined with a very versatile mount makes this useable with minimal setup. The Elite XG270QG review was ready to go right out of the box.

The stand is something I really would like to highlight, as it can orient to any position you’d like, even vertical! I found this particularly useful as an additional monitor or for viewing endless scrolling content like social media and what have you. The color accuracy made even something as simple as Twitter seem to pop.

RGB embedded in the back and underlights are a nice touch, and you have to have these if you want to compete in the gaming market. Doesn’t feel tacked on at all.

Verdict

I think we are reaching the peak of monitors. Now we are seeing specific monitors really starting to perfectly fill their niche. It’s not about should I have a 34” 3440×1440, 240hz refresh rate, 0ms response time, and so on.

A monitor will have to match the need. Do you need a side monitor? Do you need a monitor for first person shooters? Do you need a monitor for RPG’s and movies? Widescreen or standard? The end of the “one size fits all” monitor is here. But I feel this one has straddled a line well.

Here is where the ViewSonic ELITE XG270QG review: Color accurate, responsive gaming monitor. It fills the needs of not just general gaming, but high end, rich viewing experience without being exclusive to a single genre of games. This will be your main monitor, and quite possible, the only monitor you need to get the best experiences.

ViewSonic has a great lineup of monitors that probably fill the other roles a little better. The XG350R-C for RPG’s and cinematic experiences, for example. But I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with what the ELITE XG270QG has to offer. The monitor is available through Amazon here, for $599.99.
