Today’s Wine

Today’s wine isn, we return to Italy. It’s a 2017 Collavini Merlot. It’s a wonderfully smooth wine, both in terms of feel and finish, bright ruby red, with berries and plum flavors on the tongue. While I would not call this dry, neither is it sweet, so let’s go with ‘medium dry’. The nose is lightly floral. This is one of those inexpensive wines that I love so much. Here, at the LCBO (the Ontario liquor store), it runs at $8 a bottle.

Enjoy!

Today’s Featured Topic

We should talk about the “Four Freedoms”

A program is “free software” if the program’s users have the four essential freedoms:

1: The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose.

2: The freedom to study how the program works, and change it so it does your computing as you wish. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

3: The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor.

4: The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others. By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

If software is licensed in a way that does not provide these 4 freedoms, then it is categorized as nonfree or proprietary.

Next . . .

The making of a podcast, where we consider the tools of the trade, the problems I’ve encountered, and all that.

Distribution Focus

While this isn’t my distribution focus for the day, I should probably point out that Ubuntu 19.10 is officially out, along with Kubuntu, the KDE Plasma version of the same distribution.

Today’s featured distribution is a brand new kid on the block. It’s called “OpenStage Linux” and you can get it here.

Other Stuff

We will get there.

Let’s talk about stuff and things. Maybe.

Until next time . . . A votre santé! Bon appétit!
